We are proud to celebrate the achievements of Ambulance Victoria Director Denise Heinjus OAM who has been recognised in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours.
Denise’s contribution to nursing, and the broader health sector, is significant and we are honoured to have her here at AV.
Denise has made an outstanding contribution to the public health sector, and the profession of nursing, across NSW and Victoria. In Victoria she has served as the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery at the former Southern Health (now Monash Health), and most recently as Executive Director of Nursing and Residential Care at Melbourne Health, before joining the Ambulance Victoria Board.
Denise has a stellar record of achievement in health, leading complex reform programs including the successful expansion of an electronic medical record (EMR) across the Parkville Precinct – all while dealing with the unprecedented impacts of a global pandemic.
While Denise is an industry leader in nursing and allied health, her greatest legacy will be her work in the prevention of Occupational Violence and Aggression toward healthcare workers. Her work in this area has been celebrated and adopted by others and she is rightly recognised as not only a fierce advocate for healthcare workers but a driver of reform in this important area.
As a Director of Ambulance Victoria, Denise’s commitment to improving outcomes and experiences for our people and our patients is informing our approach to addressing occupational violence and aggression, improving clinical quality and patient experience programs and delivering on our strategic transformation program, which launched in 2023.
The OAM is well deserved acknowledgement Denise – congratulations from all of us at AV.
