Ambulance Victoria (AV) is competing in the 2024 Victoria Police and Emergency Services (VPES) Games taking place this week.
Now in its 43rd year, the Games are an opportunity for members from emergency services agencies to come together and take part in friendly competition.
Kyneton Paramedic Josh Pineda will be participating in netball and beach volleyball, with both teams comprised of paramedics from across Melbourne and the Macedon Ranges.
Josh said his motivation to join was bonding with his work mates.
“I’m looking forward to playing as it’s a great opportunity for colleagues from my branch and others to spend time together outside of work,” Josh said.
“We wanted to sign-up because it allows us to let off steam and boost morale as a team.”
His first time playing in the Games, Josh said he was excited to play alongside other agencies too.
“As a paramedic, we work closely with other emergency services agencies at incidents, so it’s fun to have a bit of friendly competition with them.”
North Melbourne Paramedic Joshua Sek is competing in the gruelling three-hour cross-country marathon (mountain bikes).
While it’s Joshua’s first year competing in the Games and representing Ambulance Victoria, he is no stranger to competing in mountain bike racing.
“I first got into mountain bike racing when I was around 12 years old and have been racing in some capacity since then,” he said.
“I’m currently in between the Australian competition seasons, so the Games is a nice chance to compete in some friendly competition between emergency services.”
Ambulance Victoria is fielding a team of employees from across Victoria to participate in a range of sports.
The VPES Games run from Sunday 20 October to Sunday 27 October and includes 42 sports and 178 unique events conducted throughout Melbourne and Regional Victoria.
