Teamwork got Mark back on his feet

January 30, 2025 | in News

Mark Stockton was just minutes from home when a large tree unexpectedly fell onto his car, trapping him inside. The crash caused serious injuries to his head, chest, abdomen, and right leg, but thankfully, Mark’s seatbelt and airbags helped reduce the severity of the impact.

First responders from Ambulance Victoria (AV), CFA, SES, and Victoria Police worked quickly and seamlessly to rescue Mark from the wreckage. MICA paramedics were on the scene almost immediately, providing critical trauma care before rushing him to the Alfred Hospital for further treatment.

Mark, who spent over two weeks in hospital recovering from his injuries, was joined by his family to meet the team of emergency responders who helped save his life.

“I’m so grateful to every person who played a part in my rescue,” Mark shared. “If it weren’t for the fast action and skill of the team, I wouldn’t be here today with my family. They gave me the chance to keep going when I thought it was all over.”

AV MICA paramedic Angus Bowden, who was part of the team on the ground, reflected on the importance of teamwork in high-stress situations: “When you’re dealing with an incident like this, every second matters. The collaboration between all the emergency services involved made all the difference. Mark’s recovery is a real testament to the dedication and skill of everyone who responded.”

Mark’s journey to recovery wasn’t easy, but he is thankful for the quick response and expert care that ultimately saved his life. “It’s a long road ahead, but I’m just so lucky to be here,” he said.

This experience highlights the critical role emergency services play in responding to life-threatening situations and the power of teamwork in ensuring the best outcomes for patients.
