Telehealth Prehospital Response of Mental Health and Paramedic Team

The Telehealth Prehospital Response of Mental Health and Paramedic Team (TelePROMPT) provides better access to care for mental health patients who call Triple Zero (000).

How TelePROMPT works

TelePROMPT is staffed by experienced mental health clinicians who provide expert advice and referrals to other services that better meet the needs of mental health patients.

When with a patient, paramedics may call TelePROMPT. They will then be connected with a mental health clinician who will assess the situation via telehealth.

Together they will decide on the best care option for the patient, which may include:

  • Self care.
  • Referral to an alternative service.
  • Hospital treatment.

Benefits of TelePROMPT

There are a number of benefits to using TelePROMPT:

  • Introduces a more streamlined and positive experience for mental health patients.
  • Enhances the experience of paramedics by giving them improved confidence to respond to the care needs of mental health patients.
  • Reduces unnecessary transport to hospital emergency departments, which is not always the best place for patients with mental health issues to receive care.

TelePROMPT is a state-wide service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
